OK, so there needed to be a little space between the August 5th Broadway closing and a return to the blog. I went to a farm, practiced some yoga-aka breathing in the name of trying to adjust to the “new normal,” right? Now the tour company is on vacation for four weeks until their Portland stop so we’ve got some time for catching up, photo releasing, and closing coverage- all in the name of transitioning…what will the next part of the MEMPHIS journey look like? It’s going to be an exciting adventure for sure!
So I filmed parts of the final performance. It’s true. A guy even yelled to me in the boxes from the mezzanine at intermission asking for a copy. Like seriously asking. As in “what can I pay for a copy of that?” I told him the footage will be available on Memphis social media and no where else- I cannot be bought, mister. So, while I work on that footage so you all enjoy it too…read about one of the ways we marked the closing occasion on Broadway.
I always try and make things fun for the cast- silly emails, contests, whatever they need to keep the pep in their step. Side note: I also find that the more ridiculous the email, the more likely the cast will read it. So when the closing notice came out for Broadway, I realized I had an opportunity for one final contest. With the prize being a coveted Memphis sweatshirt that was a sample mock up- meaning only one existed in the world, I solicited closing haikus from the company.
Here were some of the entries!
